VAN CAVE

Van Cave is 1 of the 22 new caves discovered in Quang Binh in early 2024. So far, the expedition team has only explored and recorded 4 kilometers of the cave’s length, while the rest is still being studied by experts.

Van Cave is a fossil cave, and its entrance is located near the mountain peak. To get here, you will have to trek through a treacherous mountain trail under the primary forest, following the rock layers in the mountain – a rare geological landscape created by layers of limestone over millions of years.

As the oldest cave in Abandoned Valley, Van cave stalactite cave displays almost all the stalactite systems and minerals typical of the Karst caves. What’s unique is that most of them are moonmilk with a layer of condensed minerals on the surface that shimmer sparkling, truly mesmerizing and making you want to immerse yourself in this mysterious world.

The challenge begins as you descend from the entrance to the cave’s interior using professional safety equipment, conquering a nearly 30-meters high cave wall. Next, don’t miss the moment to admire the giant concentric vortex on the cave ceiling, formed by the movement and formation of the Earth’s crust. The structure of Van cave is quite complex, divided into many large chambers. The deeper you go into the cave, the more you will see stalactite columns 25-30 meters high connecting from the floor to the ceiling of the cave like “sky pillars,” with a diameter that 20 people can embrace.

The collection of white jade (cave pearls) in Van cave is distributed throughout from the area near the entrance to the area of the 4 kilometers pipe stalactite tunnel of the cave. Their appearance is ubiquitous in various shapes and features. What’s special is that cave pearls here are bright white (truly white pearls), some sparkling, some with veins like a small planet. They are diverse in size and shape: spherical, eggs, custard apple, bullion gold, plate…
Coralloid stalactites are also a highlight among the many types of stalactites found here. Because of their widespread distribution in various locations within the cave: Coralloid stalactites growing from rimstone pools, wall patches growing from flowstone … You will be truly amazed by the beauty of creation.
