<\/b>E Cave Phong Nha \u2013 The Most Beautiful Cave in Abandoned Valley<\/span><\/b><\/h1><\/div>\n

E Cave is an active water cave inside Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park \u2014 one of the few caves in the region still entirely untouched by tourist infrastructure. There are no roads leading in. To reach E Cave, you walk 3km through primary jungle in Abandoned Valley<\/a> from Km19 on the Western Ho Chi Minh Road. Inside, a natural underground river flows year-round from a limestone aquifer, creating the cave’s signature turquoise water \u2014 so clear you can see straight to the bottom. E Cave is the only cave in Phong Nha where visitors paddle a SUP board 1.2\u20131.5km into the mountain to explore.<\/p>\n

What Is E Cave?<\/h2>\n

E Cave belongs to the Phong Nha underground river system \u2014 the water originates from Khe Rung Village at 570m elevation near the Vietnam\u2013Laos border, flowing approximately 35km underground through the Son Doong, Nuoc Nut, and Tra Ang cave systems before emerging at E Cave, then continuing through Dark Cave Exit and joining the Chay River. E Cave is an active water cave \u2014 completely different from Paradise Cave (a dry cave with wooden walkways) or Dark Cave (known for its mineral mud pools). Inside, there is a continuous flow of water, clear and cold year-round at 18\u201322\u00b0C. The explored length of the cave is approximately 3km, reaching a maximum depth of 20m. The water colour changes with the seasons: turquoise in summer, soft pastel blue in winter.<\/p>\n

What You’ll See Inside E Cave<\/h2>\n

When you paddle or swim 1.2\u20131.5km into the cave, you’ll encounter:
\n\u2013 Tetracoral fossils on the ceiling and walls \u2014 geological evidence from 400 million years ago, when this region was an ancient seabed
\n\u2013 Tectonic fracture lines \u2014 visible records of the limestone mountain-building process over hundreds of millions of years
\n\u2013 Stalactites and stalagmites \u2014 some several meters long, growing slowly over millennia
\n\u2013 A live stream flowing from deep inside \u2014 the cave is active, fed by underground water from the Vietnam-Laos border area
\n\u2013 Strong echoes \u2014 the cave amplifies every sound; even a whisper carries clearly
\n\u2013 A noticeable temperature drop \u2014 the air inside is significantly cooler and more humid than outside<\/p>\n

\"Geological<\/p>\n

Inside the cave, tectonic fractures from the limestone mountain-building process are clearly visible on the walls. Stalactites and stalagmites have formed slowly over millennia, and flowstone runs in sheets down the cave walls.<\/p>\n

The Cave Entrance<\/h2>\n

The entrance of E Cave opens into a wide natural pool \u2014 a striking open-air swimming spot where the underground river emerges into the daylight, enclosed by limestone walls on all sides. This is where the free-time portion of every tour takes place:

\n\u2013 Swimming and snorkeling \u2014 visibility is exceptional; you can see stream fish, freshwater prawns, and the cave floor below

Ecosystem<\/h2>\n

The primary forest surrounding E Cave is home to the Ha Tinh langur (Trachypithecus hatinhensis) and the white-cheeked gibbon (Nomascus siki) \u2014 two primate species endemic to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Walk quietly in the early morning and you may hear the gibbons calling from the ridge above. Below the surface at the cave entrance, the water is a habitat for climbing perch, freshwater prawns, and the marbled eel (Anguilla marmorata) \u2014 a species protected under Vietnam’s Red Book, found at depths of up to 20m inside the cave.<\/p>\n

Best Time to Visit E Cave<\/h2>\n

E Cave is open year-round, but the experience differs significantly between seasons. Dry season (February\u2013August):<\/strong> Water is clearest and most turquoise. Underwater GoPro footage available. Snorkeling visibility at its best. Children from age 5 accepted on the day tour. This is the optimal time for most visitors. Rainy season (September\u2013January):<\/strong> Tours still depart if conditions are safe. Water may be less clear; GoPro footage may be cancelled. The cave and jungle take on a different character \u2014 mist, louder streams, and a more dramatic atmosphere.<\/p>\n
