Tour Introduction

The Abandoned Valley and Thuy Cung Cave trek tour is designed for those with just a day to explore the wild but still looking for an escape to the jungle along with adventure and of course, a beautiful cave.

This tour highlights 12km – 15km of the Ho Chi Minh trail, through the Abandoned Valley, exploring the national park tropical forest, swimming, and exploring the other exit of the now famous Dark Cave, and Thuy Cung Cave (also called the Water Palace) where is one of the most pristine river caves in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park as it is situated in a completely unspoiled environment. 

The Abandoned Valley and Thuy Cung Cave with an area of 2,000 ha, converging many forms of terrain, from limestone mountains, non-Karst terrain, flat land, caves to underground streams and primeval forests.

More specifically, Abandoned Valley is a hidden place of biological diversity, is the kingdom of many birds, including many species recorded in the Vietnam Red Book such as Lam pheasant, hornbill bird…. It is an opportunity for us to better understand the biodiversity values of the world natural heritage forest of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.

  • Basic canvas trekking boots (only if you do not have your own pair) sizes 36 – 46

  • First Aid Kit and Medical Rescue Equipment
  • All necessary forest and tourist permits
  • Secure Storage Facility at our Headquarters to store any luggage you will not be taking on the trek

What To Bring

  • 1 long pants (quick dry) and 1 long sleeved shirt (quick dry) (highly recommend to avoid leeches and poison ivies)
  • 1 pair of trekking boots/shoes – difficult terrain, good footwear necessary. Gore-Tex/waterproof boots are NOT recommended as they do not drain well (if you prefer your own comfortable pair)
  • 1 change of clothes for after the tour
  • 1 pair of calf-length densely woven socks (not ankle socks)
  • Personal items: mosquito repellent, sunglasses, hat, camera, underwear, toiletries, sunscreen, towel and swimsuit (if desired).

8:30 AMAbandoned Valley Trekking

We will then be taken to Ho Chi Minh Trail West at Km15 and through vast grass hills to many endemic populations of Dau Rai trees, immense picturesque trees and rich flora. Here, we will immerse ourselves among hundreds of massive trees, descend down narrow paths with shimmy around boulders and under low-hanging vines. Trek upstream to the rarely visited exit of the Dark cave, then equipped with our safety gear, we will then explore 800m into the mouth of the cave. After our eyes readjust to the sunlight upon coming back out of the cave, you will then trek 2km upstream to the Thuy Cung cave (Water Paradise).

Upon returning to the jungle, our team will prepare you a picnic lunch so you can regain your energy and rest up before the second half of your trekking day.

1:00 PMRelax time & enjoy the nature

You will then have time to swim in the cool crystal clear natural spring and explore Thuy Cung Cave with magnificent and beautiful landscapes, and deep inside, we will be amazed at the beauty of nature, the beauty and the unique architecture of stalactites

3:30 PMAbandoned Valley Trekking & End tour

Head back (6km) trekking on a different trail in the Abandoned valley to Ho Chi Minh road. Drive back to your hotel around 5.00pm. Tour ends.
